Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, conveyed his sorrow over the murder of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Abhishek Ghosalkar, labeling it as deeply distressing. He urged against politicizing the incident, stating, "No one should politicise this incident." Fadnavis addressed the past association between Ghosalkar and the assailant, Morris Noronha, highlighting their former camaraderie, "In 2024, Morris and Ghosalkar were seen on the same banners, welcoming the new year together." However, he also noted their subsequent falling out and the ongoing investigation into the motives behind the attack.

Ghosalkar was fatally shot by a lone assailant identified as Mauris Noronha in the Dahisar area. The assailant later committed suicide. The police have registered a case against the deceased Noronha under various sections of the IPC and Arms Act. The incident has raised concerns about the law and order situation in Maharashtra, with the opposition criticizing the government's handling of criminal elements.
